چکیده

Aim: Assessment and comparison of different algorithms that Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) use to recognize as shockable monomorphic and polymorphic Ventricular Tachycardia (VT). Method: Engineering bench tests for a descriptive systematic evaluation in commercially available AEDs. AEDs were tested through an electrocardiographic (ECG) simulator that is capable to generate different kind of monomorphic and polymorphic VT. All tests were performed at the engineering facility of the Lombardia Regional Emergency Service (AREU, Azienda Regionale Emergenza Urgenza). Results: The tests showed marked differences among the AEDs when a Monomorphic Ventricular Tachycardia was simulated. The AED recognized the Monomorphic Ventricular Tachycardia (MVT) as shockable rhythm above a value ranging from 140 to 230 beats per minute (BPM). For Polymorphic Ventricular Tachycardia (PVT) not all AEDs delivered a shock when pre-determined types of VT were selected.

Improved Ventricular Fibrillation/Tachycardia Detection using NEWFM for Automated External Defibrillators

Ventricular fibrillation (VF) and ventricular tachycardia (VT) are life-threatening signals. Automated external defibrillators can decrease the fatality rate if the VF/VT detection is stable and quick. This thesis proposes improved VF/VT detection. For our experiments, we use the complete Creighton University Ventricular Tachyarrhythmia Database. Samples are analyzed under the same conditions i...

Primary prevention of sudden cardiac death: the time of your life.

The trouble with sudden cardiac death (SCD) is just that—it is sudden and individually unpredictable. Recent data from the Centers for Disease Control showed that SCD accounted for 460 000 deaths, or about 63% of deaths due to cardiac disease, in 1999.1 Typically, a cardiac arrest results from sustained ventricular tachycardia (VT) or ventricular fibrillation that progresses to death if effecti...

Classification of Arrhythmias Using Support Vector Machine

Detection of ventricular fibrillation (VF) and hasty ventricular tachycardia (VT) is crucial for the success of the defibrillation analysis. The algorithm that combines ECG parameters with Multicast SVM to categorize VF/shockable arrhythmias has been offered. The multicast SVM learning algorithms can increase the effectiveness for the exposure of lifethreatening arrhythmias. FS methods might he...

The automated external defibrillator: clinical benefits and legal liability.

SUDDEN CARDIAC ARREST IS THE MOST COMMON CAUSE of death in the United States, accounting for an estimated 350 000 deaths annually, and it is a leading cause of disability and health care costs. Lifethreatening cardiac arrhythmias such as ventricular tachycardia or ventricular fibrillation usually cause sudden cardiac arrest. Early defibrillation of ventricular tachycardia or ventricular fibrill...

Letter by Vilke et al regarding article, "sudden cardiac arrest and death following application of shocks from a TASER electronic control device".

BACKGROUND The safety of electronic control devices (ECDs) has been questioned. The goal of this study was to analyze in detail cases of loss of consciousness associated with ECD deployment. METHODS AND RESULTS Eight cases of TASER X26 ECD-induced loss of consciousness were studied. In each instance, when available, police, medical, and emergency response records, ECD dataport interrogation, ...
